Parks and Recreation

AQUA has worked extensively on park, recreation and open space and master site plans, feasibility studies, grant administration, design and permitting, bidding and construction management. We ensure that municipalities comply with state code requirements related to mandatory dedication of recreation facilities and/or open space areas in conjunction with subdivision and land development activities.

Hyrum City Salt Hollow Park
AQUA Engineering is currently working with Hyrum City in constructing Salt Hollow Park. The park sits on a little over 6 acres with approximately 3 acres being developed in the current phase. AQUA worked with the City to design a layout that includes an internal looped trail system, sledding hill, water features including a splash pad, stream and pond. The first phase has also included a large playground area with various climbing toys, pavilions and restrooms. AQUA has also helped the City look at various funding options including applications for grants and the chosen alternative of constructing the park with volunteer labor which allowed the City to reach its desired goals on a very limited budget.

Hyrum City Blacksmith Fork Park
The Blacksmith Fork Park project consists of 24 acres of turf, trees, and various other landscape features. The design includes picnic pavilions, parking, tennis courts, ball fields and a one acre fenced dog run. The park was design to include a network of internal walking trails and implements access points off of main roads for interior vehicle travel. The site plan includes the design of an automatic irrigation system, potable water and sanitary sewer utilities and a storm drain utility along with a drainage plan that will allow for above ground detention of storm water.

Summit County Fairgrounds
AQUA Engineering completed multiple projects for Summit County to enhance their County Fairgrounds. In 2002 AQUA helped the County rebuild the Tennis Courts adding a resilient surface, lighting and basketball standards. Over the next two years AQUA helped design and construct a new rodeo arena, Ball field upgrades, additional seating at the rodeo arena, and expansion of concessions and restroom facilities.

West Wendover City Hall and Historical Park
AQUA Engineering has worked for several years with the City of West Wendover through planning, funding, acquisition, engineering, design and construction management of the City Center Project that has included development of a City Hall and a historical park which includes preservation and interpretation of a short section of the Victory Highway (utilized as a recreational trail), and relocation of the Wendover Will Monument a famous metal cowboy that stood at the State line for 50 years. The project has required AQUA to work closely with the BLM, and USDA to acquire the land and help fund the project. The resulting historic park not only preserves a large parcel of open space in the center of town but serves as a tourist attraction and a point of community pride.

West Wendover Recreation Complex
In 2005 AQUA Engineering worked with the City of West Wendover to help develop a master plan for two large parcels of land for use as parks with recreational amenities. One site was proposed to have two little league baseball diamonds, concessions, restrooms, and other amenities for younger children. The larger site was proposed to have two regulation baseball diamonds, a multipurpose field, a soccer field, exercise stations, a recreation center with facilities for indoor programs. Both parks were tied into the citywide trail system for easy access by pedestrian and non-motorized forms of transpiration. The plan has been refined as funding for various parts has been acquired. Connections to the city wide trail system were completed in 2006-2007. Other portions of the plan such as the recreation building and the baseball fields have been funded were constructed the spring of 2010.

Trail Systems

Leppy Hills Trail Project 2007-2008
The Leppy Hills Trail Project was a jointly funded project by the City of West Wendover and Nevada Recreational Trails Grant Program. AQUA  Engineering worked with the City to locate a trail consisting of a series of two loops in the Leppy Hills foot hills for a total of 5 miles of trail. AQUA helped the City with the grant application process and managed the design and construction of the project. AQUA also worked with BLM to get right-of-ways for the trail. Sensitivity for the environment was a high priority on this project. They received special recognition from the State of Nevada for this project and has used this project as a model for other communities to follow.

Grantsville City Trail System
Grantsville City hired AQUA Engineering to help design a trail within its Durfee Street and Willow Street right-of-way. AQUA was able to help the City to locate this trail within the context of the surrounding community so that the trail could be utilized by children as a safe access to local schools as well as for other recreational purposes. This began the process of planning for a comprehensive trails system throughout the community. AQUA worked with both Grantsville City and Tooele County to tie the proposed City trail system into a County wide trail system. The trails system master plan has enabled the community to require developers to build portions of the trail system as part of their development thus reducing the cost of future implementation. AQUA has also helped the City apply for grant funds to construct portions of the trails system.
