Ventana Pump Station - Deer Valley East Village Snowmaking System
The Ventana Pump Station supplies raw water for snowmaking across the Deer Valley East Village resort, one of the high-head pumping facilities in a system that sources water from Jordanelle Reservoir and conveys it through pump stations, pipelines, storage, and valve stations.
High-head snowmaking pumping at this scale produces severe operating and transient conditions. AQUA built a hydraulic surge model of the station to quantify pressures, which exceed 500 psi at the design duty point and can surpass 800 psi under transient events, and used the results to size the ten pumps (about 4,000 total horsepower, over 10,000 gpm) and to specify high-pressure materials and appurtenances, including 600-pound flanged connections. The cast-in-place structure draws directly from the adjacent 600,000-gallon raw-water tank, avoiding a wet well.
Originally assigned to others, the complete pump station design was taken on by AQUA, which serves as Engineer of Record and manages procurement of long-lead equipment and materials in coordination with the Owner and General Contractor through construction.
