Colorado River Resort Water Treatment Facility

Picture
AQUA was retained to provide engineering design services for a new surface water treatment facility serving two hospitality developments near Moab, Utah. The project was developed to provide a reliable potable water supply sourced from the Colorado River and included all treatment, storage, pumping, and support facilities necessary to serve the new hotels.

The system begins with an innovative floating intake structure designed to accommodate changing river conditions while providing a dependable raw water source. Water is conveyed from the Colorado River to the treatment facility, where it undergoes a multi-stage treatment process. The treatment train includes a pre-sedimentation tank and a Westech SuperSettler™, an inclined plate clarification system that efficiently removes suspended solids and reduces treatment plant footprint requirements.

Following clarification, water is treated through a microfiltration system to achieve high-quality finished water. Chlorine disinfection is provided to ensure regulatory compliance and maintain water quality throughout the distribution system.

Treated water is stored in a new 260,000-gallon reservoir that provides operational storage and system reliability. AQUA also designed the pumping systems required to distribute water to the hotel developments, including a dedicated fire suppression pumping system to meet fire protection demands and improve overall facility resiliency.

In addition to treatment process design, AQUA provided engineering for a new equipment building housing the treatment, pumping, and control equipment, as well as associated civil, mechanical, electrical, and site improvements. The facility successfully obtained construction permits from both state and county regulatory agencies and is currently providing potable water service to two operating hotels.
