Deer Valley East Village Park Peak Water and Sewer Systems
The Park Peak amenities sit high on the mountain, beyond the service areas covered by the original Deer Valley East Village master plan, and require both potable water and sanitary sewer service. AQUA developed the water and sewer master plan for the area and is carrying the improvements through design and construction, sizing infrastructure from facility programming and a hydraulic model with transient surge analysis.
On the potable side, AQUA did more than design pipe and pumps: it helped establish an entirely new community public water system. The Park Peak Public Water System is owned and operated by the Park Peak Mutual Water Company and supplied through a wholesale culinary connection to the Jordanelle Special Service District, with ownership and operating responsibility clearly delineated at the interconnection. AQUA prepared the system’s Technical, Managerial, and Financial capacity demonstration under Utah Administrative Code R309-800, the basis for Division of Drinking Water approval and issuance of a public water system identification number.
The physical potable system includes a pump station near the Tank No. 2 site that boosts water up to a dedicated 600,000-gallon Park Peak storage tank through roughly 15,500 feet of transmission pipeline, with the tank sized for operational, fire-flow, and contingency storage. The elevation gain produces extreme operating pressures, with pump station discharge reaching approximately 1,200 psi, well beyond standard municipal water equipment. AQUA specified a pump adapted from the oil and gas industry and welded steel transmission pipe rated for that pressure. Because the line carries potable water subject to NSF-61, conventional field welding would have destroyed the pipe’s internal epoxy lining, so AQUA used an external sleeve system to join pipe sections from the outside and preserve the internal coating across every joint, in what is believed to be a first-of-its-kind application.
Working with the skier services building’s mechanical engineer, AQUA also designed the 600,000-gallon tank to serve as a geothermal thermal-storage battery, using the stored water to provide heating and cooling capacity to the adjacent building and adding to the project’s sustainability.
On the wastewater side, AQUA designed the Park Peak sewer trunk line conveying flow down to the Mayflower Village Base, with cleanouts, flow monitoring, and provisions for a pipeline pigging system. AQUA is providing construction administration and observation through completion.
