Hyrum City
City Engineer | City Engineering and Water/Wastewater Infrastructure Improvements

QUA has served as the Contract City Engineer for Hyrum City since 2006, providing comprehensive engineering, planning, design, construction administration, and development review services. Through this long-term partnership, AQUA has played a key role in maintaining and upgrading the City's water, wastewater, and transportation infrastructure to support community growth, improve system reliability, and meet evolving regulatory requirements.

As part of its ongoing capital improvement program, AQUA has designed and overseen the replacement of approximately 1,000 to 3,000 linear feet of aging water distribution infrastructure annually. These projects have focused on replacing undersized and outdated pipelines with 8-inch and larger water mains to meet State requirements for pipe sizing, materials, pressure, fire flow, and system reliability. The systematic replacement program has improved hydraulic performance, enhanced fire protection, and strengthened the long-term resiliency of the City's water distribution network.

One of the City's significant infrastructure improvements was the 2011 Water Improvement Project, which included approximately 3,100 linear feet of new 8-inch to 14-inch water main installation. The project required a cased crossing within a Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) right-of-way, extensive coordination with multiple stakeholders, and careful construction planning to minimize traffic disruptions and avoid delays. In addition to the new transmission and distribution infrastructure, the project included replacement of all water service connections and the installation of two pressure reducing valve (PRV) stations to improve pressure management throughout the system.

Beyond water main replacement projects, AQUA has designed numerous facilities associated with Hyrum City's water supply, storage, and distribution systems, including groundwater development projects, storage improvements, booster pump stations, and pressure management facilities. These projects have enhanced system capacity and operational flexibility while supporting future community growth.

AQUA has also provided extensive wastewater engineering services, including collection system improvements and treatment facility enhancements. Notably, AQUA designed and permitted a high-capacity wastewater effluent pump station capable of delivering approximately 2,100 gallons per minute to the City's pressurized secondary irrigation system. This innovative facility allows treated wastewater effluent to be beneficially reused for irrigation purposes, maximizing water resources while reducing demands on potable water supplies.

In addition to infrastructure design and construction support, AQUA assists the City with development review, utility planning, regulatory compliance, and long-term capital improvement planning. Through proactive engineering leadership and strategic infrastructure investments, AQUA continues to help Hyrum City maintain reliable utility services while preparing for future growth and water resource challenges.
