Elk Ridge City
1MG Prestressed Concrete Storage Tank

Picture
As part of a major water system upgrade program, AQUA provided planning, design, and construction support services for a new prestressed concrete water storage tank for Elk Ridge City. Constructed in 2008-2009, the project was developed to enhance water system reliability, increase storage capacity, and support the City's long-term infrastructure needs.

After evaluating multiple alternatives, AQUA recommended a prestressed concrete tank design rather than a conventional storage structure. The prestressed configuration offered significant advantages for the project, including superior performance for the tank's greater than 30-foot wall heights, improved adaptability to the site's variable geologic conditions, and enhanced seismic resistance. These factors made prestressed concrete the most cost-effective and resilient solution for the City's mountainous environment.

The facility was constructed on a challenging sloped site adjacent to established residential neighborhoods. AQUA worked closely with the City and contractor to carefully address construction access, material staging, traffic impacts, and overall construction logistics to minimize disruption to nearby residents throughout the project.

Special consideration was also given to the final site appearance and integration into the surrounding landscape. AQUA developed grading, drainage, erosion control, and revegetation plans that restored disturbed areas, improved site stability, and helped blend the facility into the existing terrain and neighborhood setting.

The completed storage tank provides a durable, long-life asset that improves system reliability, enhances emergency and fire flow storage capacity, and supports the continued growth and water service needs of Elk Ridge City.
